Flood Sensors for Ghent neighborhood in Norfolk, Virginia
November 9, 2017
Green Stream’s first installation is a pilot project for the City of Norfolk, Virginia. Six flood sensors and a gateway were installed in the Ghent neighborhood in August 2017.
One sensor is suspended over Smith’s Creek, locally known as “The Hague, ” which rises and falls with the tide. Some high tides send water into the surrounding neighborhood. The Hague fills up quickly during heaving rains as water is channeled from surround streets and underground storm drains and causes major flooding.
The other five sensors are installed in nearby low-lying intersections notorious for flooding. Within weeks, Green Stream flood sensors were reporting successive flooding events.
